General Purposes of a Boning Knife
Boning knives are a hit with fisherman because they use these for many things during a fishing trip:
- Boning fish
- Trimming meats
- Cutting fillets
The boning knife is used to remove bones in fish and certain types of meats. The long thin blade makes it easy to move around the bones, tendons, and such inside an animal or fish. The boning knife can also be used to trim off the excess fat and gristle around meat. Fishermen use it to help cut fishing line as well when it gets tangled inside the reel. Where most other knives won't fit, the tip of a boning knife fits in nicely and cuts just the piece of line (or meat) needing to be cut.
