Oil and Vinegar – Simplest Salad Dressings

The oil and vinegar salad dressing is the simplest of dressings. This is the most basic dressing known as vinaigrette or basic French dressing. A good oil and vinegar salad dressing turns your regular salad bowl into a delight.

There are many ways to make this dressing, besides whisking vinegar along with other additional seasonings. The regular practice is to to blend the vinegar with the salt, pepper and any seasoning of your choice.

For a better flavor you need to thoroughly mix the oil and vinegar. Keep adding the oil gradually and whisking constantly till the dressing blends transparently. Alternatively you can shake up all the ingredients in a small jar thats tightly shut to pour out the dressing.
This classic dressing contains three to four parts extra virgin olive oil with one part acid. Usually this is red wine vinegar. Seasonings like  salt and freshly ground pepper along with Dijon mustard or garlic add to the flavor.

If you want to use less oil and more vinegar in your dressing then you should go in for either rice vinegar or white wine vinegar. You can use two parts oil to one part vinegar. You might even include  raspberry, blueberry or other fruit vinegar.
