Ultimate Low Calorie Salad Dressings
Salad lovers usually go for salads as they're the ultimate low calorie food. Which is why many of us dress our salad with lean, low-fat dressings. Since regular dressings add 100 to 200 calories to a salad, low fat dressings reduce fat amounts in salads.
You can either make your own low fat dressing or buy ready-made versions that are quite popular. In fact these dressings are the fastest selling condiments in the market. Food labels help you buy just the dressing you want, to keep fat and calories under control.
You actually have choices in the low-fat dressing segment. Food labeling regulations get products to meet specific criteria. A fat-free dressing contains less than one-half gram of fat per two tablespoons. A serving of a low-fat salad dressing has no more than three grams of fat. It's also low in calories if it contains no more than 40 calories.
Light dressings are different from low or fat-free, but yet they have 50 percent less fat than regular versions. Regular cheese dressing may have 16 grams of fat per two tablespoons. A light version would have seven grams of fat. So light may not always be low in fat content. |
