In percolator water is placed in a lower bowl and coffee grinds put into a metal filter which is placed over this. Then the upper bowl is sealed with a firm twist. As the water boils, steam rises through the coffee grinds to condense in the upper bowl - a kind of upside down filtering process. Put first sugar in the cups, pour in the coffee and serve.

Actually a percolator is not the best way to brew coffee, because you should never use boiling water for coffee. However sometimes this method is the best when you need your coffee quikly and you do not have any other machinery to prepare it. Percolator method normally requires 5 minutes.\r\n\r\n1. Fill urn with water for the number of cups of coffee you want.\r\n2. Place coffee grounds in the basket. 1 tbs per cup of water.\r\n3. Fit basket into the urn and place on stovetop.\r\n4. Heat the water to boiling.\r\n5. The boiling water will be forced up through the coffee grounds and the brewed coffee will accumulate in the urn\r\n6. Watch the coffee bubble up through the glass dome to measure how dark (strong) it's getting.\r\n7. Brewing should take about 5 minutes.\r\n8. Remove the filter basket with the used grounds and pour.
