Tofu is a food with a texture similar to cheese. It is made from soybean curd and is often used as a substitute for meats and cheeses.

\r\n\r\nThere are three different kinds of tofu: silken, soft and firm. \r\n\r\nSilken tofu is often used to replace higher fat ingredients such as cream cheese. \r\n\r\nSoft tofu has a texture like al dente pasta. It is used as pasta replacement for dishes such as lasagna. It is used to create a lower carbohydrate option.\r\n\r\nFirm tofu is not as soft as the other tofu varieties. It can be diced up as an alternative to meats.

Because tofu has very little distinctive flavor of its own and it can take on the flavors of other foods, it is often used in food substitutes.
