Check the shape of the basket on your machine to see what shape to use. Actually there are two main shapes: flat bottom filte and cone shaped filter. Most American drip machines use the first one, while European machines - a cone shaped.

The most common filter for a drip macine is paper filter. You can also use permanent gold-meshed cone filters, but they are messier than paper filters.

Common reply to almost any coffee related question: try out the different types and settle on what’s best for you.
