Default Water left in filter

I have a Morphy Richards Cafe Merito machine which is cheap and cheerful but is my first machine and makes great tasting coffee.\r\n\r\nOne of my peeves with this machine though is that after making espresso the filter is left full up with water. If I were to leave it for a few hours it would probably all drip into the drip tray but if I want to make a few cups at a time I have to carefully carry the filter over to the sink (whilst it's dripping everywhere) and pour out the 'soup'. I never get a nice puck.\r\n\r\nDoes anyone have any ideas? I have scrubbed and descaled everything!\r\nThanks!
