Default espresso machine for 2000-3000$

Are machines which cost 2000-3000$ better than any cheaper models? What's the actual difference?

For $2000-$3000 it's better to buy solid looking machines, such as Astra Gourmet or Elektra A3. These are semi-automatic units.
