Default yeasty taste of the bread

Can you help me out? I made my first loaf of bread using my new Cuisinart Convection Bread Maker CBK-200C. I made a plain whole wheat loaf using whole wheat flour, bread flour, bread machine yeast, honey, salt, water, butter. The process worked exactly as stated in the manual. The texture of the loaf and the crust were perfect. In other words it looked great. However, it has a distinct smell and taste of yeast. I used a medium crust setting and did not leave the bread in the maker for the 60-min. warming period. When I made my own bread the "old fashioned way" without a machine, and allowed the dough to rise twice, there was no taste or smell of yeast. What did I do wrong?\r\n\r\nThanks.\r\n\r\nDiane

It sounds like your yeast maybe old. Sometimes that stuff smells like a bad pair of socks! I usually use dry active yeast when I bake bread and I do not notice the yeast smell or taste. I would try some new yeast and see if you have better results.

Default yeasty bread

I found I needed to cook wholewheat bread with the darker crust. I used the regular crust and it tasted yeasty.
