Why is is necessary to have wide cups for latte?

This is because of the art of making latte, actually of pouring latte in coffee cup. This art requires that you do two things at the same time: pour milk at a consistent and even rate and shake the pitcher side to side with the even tempo. The cup must have a wide mouth to do it properly.

CoffeeManiac is right, and there is an art of making latte. Everyone tries to make the most interesting design at the top of a cup
