Normally burrs need to be changed every 800 kg of beans.

Isn't it better to buy a blade grinder then?

Blade grinders do not have grind settings and they cannot grind cinsistently. They are not recommended for coffee drinks that require very specific grinds.

\r\n\r\nIf you have a brand name grinder where you can get parts then it's definetly\r\n worth changing burrs. I've had a $40 cuisinart burr for 2 years and its a bit\r\n worn but still works well.\r\nA good burr grinder may last longer than that. Never use a blade grinder.

\r\n\r\nActually a blade grinder is not a good way to grind coffee. The grind is\r\n inconsistent and if you keep it on to long you can burn your coffee.\r\n\r\nIf you want the best taste and consistency, get a decent Burr grinder.\r\n\r\nAll burr grinders are adjustable for the type of brewer you are using. With\r\n a blade grinder there is no adjustment.\r\n\r\nThose that understand the necessity for a proper grind know that you get much better flavor with a burr.\r\n\r\nThe only place you ever see a blade grinder is in the home.\r\nNo coffee shop or roaster would ever use one.

I think blade grinders are quite OK for those who don't worry about coffee quality.

\r\n\r\nI suppose this is true. \r\nHowever, if you are investing in gourmet beans, why wouldn't want the best flavor you can get? \r\nIsn't that the whole point of buying beans and grinding them your self? \r\nOther wise you may as well go and buy ground coffee from the super market.
