This is great bread for sandwiches. You can enjoy it plain. You can also add spice to the flavor depending on your taste. This can produce 2 loaves of bread.
o 1/4 c water (warm, about 110 degrees to 115 degrees) o 2 packs yeast(active, dry, about 1/4 ounces each) o 1/4 c water (warm, about 110 degrees to 115 degrees) o 3/4 c sugar o 2 c milk (warm, about 110 degrees to 115 degrees) o 1/2 c margarine (you can also use butter, softened) o 3/4 ts ground cardamon o 1 1/2 ts salt o 2 eggs (medium or large variety) o 7- 8 c flour (all-purpose) Use a large mixing bowl. Use warm water to dissolve yeast. You can then add the sugar, milk, butter, cardamon, salt, eggs and 3 cups flour. Beat and mix the ingredients until they become smooth. Use the remaining flour and add it to the mixture. Stir it thoroughly. You can now form a soft dough ball using this. Turn the mixture on a floured surface. Knead it until it becomes elastic and smooth. This will only take about 6 to 8 minutes. Place the mixture inside a bowl (greased). Turn the dough to grease the top portion. Cover the dough and set aside in a warm place. The dough will rise and double. Punch the dough about an hour later. Turn it in a flat surface (lightly floured only). Divide the dough into 1/2. You can then subdivide it into thirds. Use 13” ropes to shape the dough pieces. Use three ropes and place them on a sheet pan (greased). Braid these ropes. You can seal the ends by pinching it. Repeat the procedure for the other pieces. Cover the dough and allow rising again. This would take about 45 minutes. Preheat oven at 350F. Baking would take about 25-30mins. Transfer dough to the wire racks to cool. |
