This bread recipe is a low calorie vegetarian bread. You may get to enjoy this Greek Christmas bread without worrying about your diet too much. The following makes 15 servings
You will need the following: Egg a package (or 1 tablespoon) Active Dry, Yeast a teaspoon Ground Cardamom a cup All-Purpose Flour 1/4 cup Warm Water (110 to 115, degrees) 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1/4 cup Milk 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil 1/4 cup Golden Raisins 1/4 cup Walnuts, chopped 1/3 cup Sugar 1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour PROCEDURES: With warm water dissolve yeast. Set aside your yeast mixture With the use of a large bowl put together cardamom, egg, milk, sugar and oil and mix. Now add the yeast mixture, raisins, flour and nuts and mix thoroughly Put just enough extra flour for a soft dough On a floured surface turn the dough and knead for 5 minutes until the dough is elastic and smooth. Make a round loaf. Grease 8-inch-round pan and place the dough. For one hour use a damp towel to cover the dough and allow to rise until it doubled its size In a 350-degree oven bake the dough for 35-40 minutes or until it turns brown. |
